Schools
Of the District’s 10 elementary schools, 8 support kindergarten through grade 6. Two elementary schools provide kindergarten through grade 5, with one school serving grade 2 through 8. New in 2015 is a primary school grades kindergarten through 3 that is paired with a 4-8 intermediate school serving together as a K-8 Fine Arts Magnet program. The District has a Serving Unique Needs (S.U.N.) gifted program serving 1,390 (8%) who have been identified as having at least an above average ability (7th stanine or above on a group or individual IQ measure); demonstrate high levels of task commitment and high levels of creativity.
One middle school in the Sunnyside District supports grades 6 through 8, two middle schools provide for grades 7 and 8. Sunnyside High and Desert View High Schools are supplemented by a virtual high school, Sunnyside Online Success Academy which provides fully online and blended digital learning environments. A fourth alternative high school completes the full spectrum of opportunities for Sunnyside District students. Sunnyside and Desert View high schools have a College and Career “Academy” structure that provides students a small learning community learning environment, including a freshman academy set apart from the upper school.
The College and Career Academies at Sunnyside Unified School District provide innovative, relevant and engaging connected learning opportunities centered on the career interests of students. The Academies provide an individualized high school experience that allows students to explore a variety of pathways to graduation and college or career. The Academies offered include Aviation and Military Science (AFJROTC), Engineering Sciences, Information Technology/Computer Repair, Business Management and Administrative Services, Communications Media and Marketing Entrepreneurship, and a nationally recognized Mechanical Drafting & Design (3-D) and Precision Manufacturing program.
