A School Within a School

According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, over one - third of all dropouts are lost in ninth grade. With that in mind, the Sunnyside Unified School District has developed strong Freshman Academies to ensure the success if each student entering high school. Students are placed on a learning team with a core group of five teachers who work together to identify the strengths and needs of each student, and provide a safety net for any students in need of extra help. There is a clear focus on providing students with relevant learning opportunities to help them identify college and career pathways. In the Freshman Academy, Success for the Future Starts Today!

While attending a Freshman Academy, each student will...

  • Master all content
  • Come to school prepared and ready to learn all day, every day
  • Take pride in themselves, their classroom and their school
  • Be active participant in academics
  • Make every assignment count, no zeros
  • Treat others as you would like to be treated
