About Us

Each child...College, Career & Community Ready.
SUSD serves families with children from birth to grade 12. We believe every student deserves a school experience that inspires them to learn, helps them feel connected, and gives them a reason to look forward to what comes next.
There’s something for everyone at Sunnyside. Through academics, competitive athletics, fine arts, clubs, and extracurricular activities, students can discover their interests, build friendships, and find where they belong. Our nationally recognized high school Career & Technical Education programs and opportunities to earn college credit give students meaningful pathways to explore careers and prepare for life after graduation.
From our Early Learning Center through high school, we want every student to see a future for themselves in Sunnyside—and stay connected, engaged, and on the path to graduation.
The district maintains its focus on the key components of its strategic plan:
- Advancing Learner Agency
- Cultivating Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Informing, Engaging & Empowering Community
- Creating Safe & Connected Environments
Serving students for more than 100 years
Established on June 6, 1921 the Sunnyside Unified School District is the second-largest district in Southern Arizona proudly serving students across 21 school campuses. Located in a culturally and linguistically rich community and surrounded by two Native Nations—the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yaqui Tribe—our learning community is flanked by an aerospace and innovation corridor, such that our district is positioned to lead our students into the 21st century through excellence in pedagogy, world-class career and technical education, and a legacy of athletic excellence and passion for the fine arts.
Governing Board
The Sunnyside Unified School District Governing Board consists of volunteer members, each of whom resides within the school district and is elected to a four-year term in conjunction with state and federal elections every two years. The Governing Board, by law, sets District policies and has full authority over all school district business.
